Civic Engagement

The ACCG believes that government is most effective when citizens understand its role and function and are involved in the community.  For these reasons, ACCG established the Civic Affairs Foundation in 2006 in order to foster civic engagement and increase public awareness of the role and value of county government programs and services.  For more information, visit

ACCG offers programs specifically designed to increase awareness of county government among youth.  The Georgia Civic Awareness Program for Students (GCAPS) provides a hands-on learning opportunity for high school youth to learn about county government and includes interaction with local leaders as well as visits to county facilities and the State Capitol.

The ACCG Internship Program and Georgia County Internship Program (GCIP) allows college and graduate students from a variety of educational disciplines to work at ACCG or in county departments on projects ranging from web site design and geographic information systems to records management and land use planning.
