Georgia County Excellence Awards


ACCG, in partnership with Georgia Trend magazine, is pleased to announce a call for nominations for the 7th Annual Georgia County Excellence Awards program!  This is the seventh year that ACCG has partnered with Georgia Trend magazine to award and recognize counties who are initiating innovative programs designed to make county government more effective and efficient, improve services for county residents, and enhance the quality of life in Georgia communities.

All counties in Georgia are eligible to enter! Regional programs are eligible as well. One award will be given from each of the following categories: 

1. Community Planning / Visioning
2. Financial Management / Organizational Efficiency
3. Health and Human Services
4. Public Safety
5. Technology
6. Transportation / Infrastructure Development

Entries must be received to the ACCG office by Friday, November 4, 2011.

6th Annual Georgia County Excellence Awards Winners
Dawson County, for its Building Educated Students for Tomorrow (B.E.S.T.) program, which implements a curriculum to inform high school students about local government. 
Sumter County, for the creation of a professional countywide Fire and Emergency Services Department that provides protection to an unprecedented number of county residents.
Clayton County, for making use of a $9.7 million grant from the Neighborhood Stabilization Program to create jobs, affordable homeownership opportunities and an economic impact. 
Cobb County, for its development of a program to safely collect and incinerate medications, sharps and other personal care pharmaceuticals on designated disposal days.
Glynn County, for acquiring a Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) system and using the data collected to prepare the county for hurricanes and floods. 
Oconee County, for its quality of life initiatives, in particular the recently developed Oconee Veterans Park.
