The Georgia Department of Transportation has released the attached letter providing guidance to local officials on plans for increased coordination during winter weather events as well as approval to clear state roads.
In the last year, many counties have received information from the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) regarding Title VI. Many counties have been asked to sign Title VI assurance documents in order to ensure federal funding for road construction projects. However, counties may still have questions about the requirements of Title VI and how it affects local government.
In the ongoing effort to compile the best possible information on the state’s road network, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is asking each county and city to provide the total number of paved and unpaved roads within their jurisdiction.
In 2009, the Georgia General Assembly created the Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank (GTIB) to serve as a revolving loan fund for local government transportation projects.
The United States Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT) issued a press release on August 30, 2011 proposing to eliminate the unfunded mandate that all street signs must be replaced and upgraded to a higher retro-reflectivity standard by 2015. Instead, signs will only have to be upgraded to the new standard after the useful life of a sign expires.
