Water Contingency Task Force Releases Final Report

The Water Contingency Task Force includes more than 80 leaders representing business, conservation and government leaders.  It was created to provide recommendations to the Governor Perdue for water contingency planning s a result of the ruling by federal judge Paul Magnuson regarding water withdrawals from Lake Lanier.  ACCG President Jan Tankersley is serving on the task force.

The Water Contingency Task Force released their final recommendations to Governor Sonny Perdue on December 22.  The final report reaffirms that the gap cannot be closed between the water currently available and the water needed by 2012 under the reduced withdrawals called for in Federal Judge Paul Magnuson's ruling.  The task force found that more options could be available if additional time was provided beyond the 2012 deadline, but that emergency measures are very costly and conservation alone will not make up the difference.

As part of the work of the task force, ACCG provided input on behalf of counties.
