Counties Project Immediate Benefit from Passage of HB 1055

The passage of HB 1055, which increases many of the fees for services provided by the courts and the sheriff’s office, will generate additional revenues for counties.  The ACCG policy team committed a great deal of time and energy working with legislators to make sure these fee increases, identified as a priority issue in the 2010 County Platform, were included in legislation that was moving through the General Assembly.

A recent article in the Athens-Banner Herald, “State Fee Hikes Allow Athens-Clarke to Halve Worker Furloughs,” projects that this unified government will generate an additional $450,000 in revenues as a result of the passage of HB 1055.  We think that is a conservative estimate.  While it is often hard to quantify the value in dollars generated from the efforts of the ACCG policy team, this legislation clearly has a financial benefit to your county.  We strongly recommend that you review financial information at the local level from the previous year and do a month to month comparison to adequately track the additional revenue created by the fee increases in H.B. 1055.  To see a complete list of the fees that were increased and the percentage of that increase please click here.
