Georgia Ranks 33rd in Median Property Taxes Paid on Homes

A recently released report developed by the Tax Foundation, New Census Data on Property Taxes and Homeowners, ranks Georgia among the lower half of states based on an analysis of several factors related to property taxes.   The state ranks 33rd in the median property taxes paid on homes and 30th in the property taxes paid as a percentage of home value.   New Jersey ranks the highest in both categories, while Louisiana ranks the lowest.

The Tax Foundation also has launched a property tax lookup tool that allows users to select their state and county and compare property tax statistics to other states and counties.  This tool compares property taxes in 792 high population counties (65,000 or more) throughout the country.

The Tax Foundation is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that has monitored fiscal policy at the federal, state and local levels since 1937.   To view their news release on this report, click here.
