TMDLs (Total Maximum Daily Loads): TMDLs are a requirement of the Clean Water Act. Georgia is under a consent order (or legal settlement) to establish TMDLs on one of the fastest time schedules of any state in the U.S. Every Georgia county is affected by TMDLs, and must institute water pollution controls in an effort to meet TMDL requirements. For more information on TMDLs, check out the following links: U.S. EPA’s TMDL page - http://www.epa.gov/OWOW/tmdl/ -
