The Georgia County Internship Program (GCIP) connects college students with counties for a hands-on understanding of the inner workings of county government. The student interns hired for this program should perform substantive projects; administrative duties should not serve as the core of their internship. The student should be allowed to attend meetings and interact with staff members to learn more about your county.
If your county would like to participate in this program and has not been previously approved by the Association County Commissioners of Georgia, you may apply by downloading the employer application.
All counties that participate in the GCIP must be able to provide adequate supervision and work space for the intern. Each county internship must establish at least one specific project to be performed by the intern. This project must be established prior to the start of the internship and must be approved by the Association County Commissioners of Georgia.
If the student is seeking academic credit, the county must adhere to the requirements of the college the student attends. This may require the intern supervisor to create an internship plan, list target goals or complete additional paperwork. Counties establish the minimum number of hours per week needed.
Each college or university participating in the GCIP program has its own guidelines for employment of students. Employers will need to contact the students’ college career center to complete appropriate paperwork.
