Exploratory Learning – The Return of Mini-Fieldtrips

Mini-field trips return with the 2016 annual conference. These trips will help showcase various areas of Chatham County and highlight critical issues that county officials in coastal areas face. Pre-registration is required and each trip has an additional cost of $25.
Hands-On, Feet-In Coastal Outdoor Adventure with MAREX on Skidaway Island
Staff from the University of Georgia Marine Extension (MAREX) will shed light on how the ecology of Georgia’s coast is equally important as its role as an economic driver. Dive in to learn firsthand about the many environmental and policy issues that impact these environments. Participants in this adventure will experience an afternoon of exploring coastal habitats and the animals they support.
A First-Hand Look at the Port of Savannah
The deepening of the Port of Savannah is critical for every Georgia county as it will further the state’s position as an economic leader on the international stage. This mini-fieldtrip will allow county officials to learn more about the logistics behind the deepening of the harbor and the economic value of the Port of Savannah as a primary gateway for trade in the United States. Georgia Ports Authority Governmental Affairs Manager Lee Beckmann will provide an overview of the Georgia Ports and a tour of the Port of Savannah.
