Elbert County
Elbert County was sliced from Wilkes County in 1790. It and the county seat of Elberton are named for General Samuel Elbert who commanded Continental forces in Georgia during the Revolution and later served as governor. Nancy Morgan Hart of Revolutionary War fame lived in Elbert County when she turned the tables on Tory soldiers who invaded her home.
