Bureau of Justice Assistance Funding Opportunities
The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) released the following solicitations for funding opportunities for states and units of local government:
- Second Chance Act Reentry Program for Adults with Co-Occurring Substance Use and Mental Disorders: BJA is seeking applications to implement or expand treatment programs for adults with co-occurring substance use and mental disorders who are returning to their communities following incarceration. BJA expects to make awards of up to $650,000 for a 36-month period, and applications are due March 14, 2017. The solicitation can be viewed here: https://www.bja.gov/Funding/SCACOD.pdf.
- Smart Reentry: Focus on Evidence-based Strategies for Successful Reentry from Incarceration to Community: BJA is seeking applications to plan and implement more effective and evidence-based reentry practices and service delivery systems that address individuals’ needs and reduce recidivism. - Swift, Certain, and Fair (SCF) Supervision Program – Including Project HOPE: BJA is seeking applications from states and localities that are interested in implementing or enhancing a Swift, Certain, and Fair (SCF) Supervision Program Model. This program provides resources to establish or enhance programming focused on modifying and reducing criminal behavior and enhancing public safety. BJA estimates that it will make awards of up to $600,000 each for a 36-month period, and applications are due March 20, 2017. BJA released the following solicitation for a funding opportunity for for-profit and nonprofit organizations and institutions of higher education that support national initiatives to improve the functioning of the criminal justice systems:
- Law Enforcement National Initiatives: Improving Responses to Criminal Justice Issues: BJA is seeking applications to assist state and local jurisdictions in improving victim and witness cooperation, preventing and reducing crime by improving law enforcement investigations, and bringing criminal justice practitioners together to discuss and explore issues and trends in the criminal justice community. BJA estimates that it will make approximately three awards for $600,000 to $1,300,000 and 18 to 24 months. The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) released the following solicitations for funding opportunities for states and units of local government with crime laboratories:
- Forensic DNA Laboratory Efficiency Improvement and Capacity Enhancement Program: The goal is to assist crime laboratories in substantially increasing laboratory capacity through a well-defined project. NIJ expects to make awards of up to $750,000 for a 36-month period, and applications are due March 13, 2017. - DNA Capacity Enhancement and Backlog Reduction (CEBR) Program Formula: The goal is to assist eligible state and units of local government to process, record, screen, and analyze forensic DNA and/or DNA database samples and to increase the capacity of public forensic DNA and DNA database laboratories to process more DNA samples—thereby helping to reduce the number of forensic DNA and DNA database samples awaiting analysis. The Bureau of Justice (BJA) released the following solicitation for a funding opportunity for nonprofit and for-profit organizations, states, local governments, and institutions of higher education:
- National Initiatives: Preventing Violence Against Law Enforcement Officers and Ensuring Officer Resilience and Survivability (VALOR) Initiative: This program improves the criminal justice system; enhances law enforcement safety, wellness, resilience, and survivability; and provides support to efforts including training and technical assistance programs strategically targeted to address law enforcement safety and wellness needs. BJA expects to make awards for $500,000 to $2,500,000
BJA released the following solicitation for a funding opportunity for nonprofit organizations, for-profit organizations, and institutions of higher education:
- Comprehensive Opioid Abuse Program Training and Technical Assistance (TTA) Program: BJA is seeking applications to plan and implement comprehensive strategies in response to the growing opioid epidemic. This program provides resources to state and local governments to intervene with persons with substance-use disorders.
